Position Description
Work in a steel manufacturing environment supporting scrap yard receiving, inspection, inventory, and daily operations.
Correctly weigh and inspect all scrap deliveries and shipments entering or leaving the facility by truck or rail.
Monitor the radiation detection system during the receiving process.
Inspect incoming scrap to ensure it meets internal material specifications.
Accurately enter weights, purchase order numbers, pile numbers, vendors, and scrap material information into the scale software.
Direct incoming trucks to the correct dumping locations.
Perform daily inspections of scrap dumping areas, yard conditions, and scrap piles.
Maintain accurate records for truck deliveries, railcars, bills of lading, scale tickets, and railroad movements.
Coordinate the movement and preparation of railcars containing the scrap grades needed by the melt shop.
Complete month-end scrap inventory and assist with daily receipt and consumption tracking.
Identify, document, warn against, or reject non-conforming scrap materials.
Communicate with scrap vendors, suppliers, railroad representatives, mill service employees, and internal departments.
Investigate scrap-related problems and help resolve receiving, inventory, or material-quality issues.
Use SAP to review daily consumption information and open or close scrap piles.
Maintain scale areas, scrap yard maps, pile-number signs, and related work areas.
Follow environmental, safety, radiation, hazardous-material, and emergency-response procedures.
Perform other duties and assist in other areas as needed.
Basic Qualifications
Previous experience in manufacturing, steelmaking, scrap yard operations, material inspection, shipping and receiving, or a related environment preferred.
Must be willing and able to work outdoors daily, including during inclement weather.
Must be able to accurately inspect materials, maintain records, and enter information into computer systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft applications required.
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and other units of measure.
Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
Ability to identify and resolve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
Must be willing and able to complete required HAZMAT, DOT, radiation, ISO environmental, ISO safety, OSHA, hazardous-waste, and job-specific training.
Must demonstrate teamwork, adaptability, reliability, initiative, communication, safety awareness, and pride in work quality.
Must be willing and able to assist in all areas as necessary.
